New Content Disabled by Default on Craft CMS

I've long wondered if there was some way to have new entries on Craft default to "disabled" (i.e. offline). It seems like a preferable default state, so that you don't run the risk of accidentally publishing a half finished piece of content, but I've never been able to find a way to do it. Well, now I know:

 • In the Admin CP navigate to Settings -> Sections and choose the entry type you want to change;
 • In the Site Settings table, toggle the Default Status lightswitch to off.

Super easy and not sure how it's taken me this long to work out!

Locked Out

I mostly use my iPad for watching YouTube. So what do I do now that Google has locked my device out of the YouTube app because it's too old? Why is it possible for a company to effectively remove features from my device that worked yesterday?

 •
I frequently save a draft post in Craft only to realise it's set as live. Luckily, for me that doesn't massively matter as it's all API driven, but still it's nice to be able to change the default.
