Hamlet

A fantastic Hamlet, with some interestingly modern tweaks that largely hits the mark.

The Five-Year Engagement

Wonderfully funny and nicely composed, a thoroughly enjoyable movie. Also: aye yay-ay-yay-ay-yay-ay-yay-yaaaaaa!

The Hateful Eight

The first half proves Tarantino is the master of suspense, whilst the second half throws it all away for a healthy dose of hyper-violence. Fun but could have been so much better.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

A nearly perfect adaptation. Where, in this instance, the word nearly means almost entirely, barring only the slightest possible chance of an overlooked error or two.

The Defenders

So much action-packed goodness with a great plot and yet further fantastic performances from the central cast. Frankly, Netflix are beginning to rival their silver screen relatives in terms of deserved hype.

Archer

A brilliant parody of spy movies with an excellent oddball cast that has, in later seasons, successfully reinvented itself on multiple occasions. A genuine cult classic.

Thor: Ragnarok

An extremely fun, vibrant and action-packed ride that lacks emotional depth. Easily the best Thor film but not quite worthy of inclusion in the MCU's greatest hits.

Mulan

Still a brilliant story with a moral underpinning that remains incredibly relevant. A children's classic that is well enough made to be enjoyable for anyone.

Joan Didion: The Centre Will Not Hold

A brilliant and deeply personal introspection of an incredible individual. A truly nuanced and exacting character analysis and a documentary style which I hope to see emulated much more in the future.
